What is hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a form of short-term psychotherapy (5-25 sessions). Hypnotherapy makes use of a hypnotic trance.

While in trance, one is highly concentrated and attention is specifically directed at the inner world. Trance is a means of gaining access to the unconscious, where not only the causes of problems can be found, but also the whole rich spectrum of inner possibilities and solutions that every person possesses.

What is hypnotherapy: not the same as losing control

We all know the television shows in which an illusionist or mind master puts someone under hypnosis. Often, the craziest things happen in such shows. It sometimes seems as if the person has completely lost control over their own body or mind.

The association that one thus loses control through hypnosis is therefore not strange, but it is certainly not correct. During a trance, a person will never do things they do not stand behind. Nothing happens in trance that you don’t want!

Trance: nothing unusual

Trance is not something unusual. We are all in trance several times a day, to a greater or lesser extent. Although we are not always aware of it, it happens more often than you think. For example, you have surely at some point driven or cycled from A to B without being aware of exactly what happened along the way. That is a form of trance.
